French Legal Terminology Roundtables

Each year Osgoode hosts French Legal Terminology Roundtables in the winter term where students learn:

  • the French terminology necessary for practice
  • how to conduct legal research in French
  • how to write persuasively in French

Students who participate in the program will use new skills in a hands-on environment, while networking with French speaking legal professionals and enhancing their own community of  French speaking colleagues.

Students who attend 6 out of 7 sessions and complete a short evaluation to the satisfaction of the instructor will receive a Certificate of Completion.


All Osgoode JD, full-time research stream LLM and PhD students as well as  full-time Osgoode PD LLM students who are comfortable speaking conversational French and interested in clerking, articling and potentially practising law in French. Sessions will be conducted entirely in French.


The 2019 French Legal Terminology Roundtables will be taking place on the following dates:

  • January 15, 2019
  • January 22, 2019
  • January 29, 2019
  • February 5, 2019
  • February 12, 2019
  • February 26, 2019
  • March 5, 2019 – evaluation

The sessions will be held between 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm at Osgoode Hall Law School.
