Date: 21-Feb-2020
Time: 09:30 AM - 03:00 PM
Location: Moot Court

Each year the Law in Action Within Schools (LAWS) program runs a conference for all of the LAWS grade 10 partnering high school students. This year the conference theme is "Rights and Responsiblities" and will be held on February 21, 2020 at Osgoode Hall Law School.

Through this conference, LAWS high school students are encouraged  to explore their rights and responsibilities through a number of workshops led by local and national organizations. The conferencce also encourages students to think critically about the law and its impact on different people, and to explore their rights and corresponding responsibilities. Topics at this year's conference include: migrant exploitation in Canada, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and wrongful convictions in Canada.

About LAWS:

Law in Action Within Schools (LAWS), a partnership between the University of Toronto's Faculty of Law and Osgoode Hall Law School at York University. LAWS is an academic and extracurricular education program aimed at supporting, guiding and motivating high school students who face barriers to engaging successfully with school and accessing post secondary education such as:

    Living in low-income neighbourhoods;
    Identifying with ethnic/cultural minority communities;
    Facing difficult personal/family circumstances; and/or
    Being the first in their families to consider post secondary education

Program goals include:

-Provide a positive and engaging exposure to legal issues, the justice system and the legal profession; and
-Use legal education as a tool to support students to graduate high school and access post secondary
